LUXEMBOURG - QUO VADIS?

Destruction accelerating...

One after another, beautiful mansions in the City and centuries-old country farms disappear. One after another, they get demolished as real estate promoters, Luxembourg's "grey cardinals", seek to monetize more plots of the pricey land of the tiny European country with big ambitions.

For a country that lacks affordable housing, more construction could mean more supply hence a more reasonable market price equilibrium. Not in Luxembourg. Housing pricing on a never ending upward spiral are further fueled by promoters hunting old houses across the country, seducing owners with above-the-market offers and killing all competition from family buyers...

Architectural legacy of the past is disappearing at an alarming and accelerating pace. Historical buildings, including those of protected status, fall victims to ignorance and greed. This has to stop.
